ART & INGENUITY

There’s no better way to celebrate spring than at the HeART Gallery Art and Ingenuityexhibit April 19-21. More than sixty ingenious ways to display artwork, photos, heirlooms and memorabilia will be exhibited as the Toledo Art Loop opens for another exciting season. Guests are encouraged to take photos and designer Kate Philabaum will be on hand to answer DIY questions for the novice and experienced crafter hoping to replicate the Pinterest-inspired design details in their own home.

Some of the more unusual displays include a shadow box from a vintage suitcase, kites made from vintage handkerchiefs perfect for a girl’s bedroom, and a dress form clothed in a skirt made from black and white photos. There are numerous ideas for displaying artwork from children or grandchildren: family photos on paper dolls, repurposed plastic protector sheets, and children’s organization tools that serve the dual purpose of storage and art.

The surprising repurposing of vintage items is one of the shows strong points. Antique mirrors, flower frogs, salt shakers, shutters, books, door knobs, broken umbrellas and watches become unique containers to hold family photos or memorabilia.

The exhibit opens Thursday, April 19 with a noon ‘Lunch & Learn” event featuring a short talk by Amy Lesniewicz, owner of Alice-Louise Press in downtown Perrysburg. Mexican lunch fare will be catered by La Michoacana of South Toledo. The Thursday evening gala from 5-8pm includes music by Scott Biddle accompanied by “sips and dips”. Friday hours are 5-8pm and Saturday 11-2pm.

Reservations for Thursday’s “Lunch and Learn” can be made by emailing kate@stpaulstoledo.org. HeART Gallery is located in St. Pauls Lutheran Church, downtown Toledo and is handicap accessible with free parking adjacent to the church. Those attending the Art Loop on Thursday, April 19 can take the Art Loop bus and exit on Adams Street.
