APRON STRINGS: TIES TO THE PAST
HeART Gallery February exhibit “Apron Strings: Ties To The Past” includes a noon Lunch & Learn event on Thursday, Feb 20. Featuring 40 vintage and contemporary examples, the exhibit boasts a variety of apron styles from the 1900s to present day. Embroidered aprons of cotton were worn in the 1920s. In contrast, the Depression and war years of the 1930s and 40s inspired sturdy, bib aprons. The post-war 1940s and 1950s – the June Cleaver era – make up the largest part of the exhibit when commercial and hand-decorated aprons served as symbols of family and motherhood. The exhibit also includes handmade aprons for sale by local crafters, and a display of vintage church cookbooks.
Members of Riverside Writers, a legacy writing group for seniors, will share pieces written on the exhibit topic. If you have an apron to display, or to make lunch reservations, contact kate@stpaulstoledo.org.
HeART Gallery is located in St Pauls Lutheran Church, 428 N Erie Street, downtown Toledo. There is free parking adjacent to the building, which is handicapped accessible.
